FAQS

  • Wellness programs help keep your employees painfree & productive, save your company money in the long run and can help with recruitment and retention.

    The bad news:

Chronic pain is the #1 cause of long term disability in the US, affecting 100 million Americans. Half of that is neck and back pain. (Think sitting and looking at a computer all day.)

20% of people with chronic pain have needed to take disability from work, and 17% have changed jobs all together. People don’t do well when they are in pain :(

36 million Americans miss work due to pain every year, resulting in over $300 billion dollars of lost productivity. Thats a lot of money!

    The good news:

Having a wellness program in place can decrease sick leave absenteeism by 27%, decrease health care costs by 26%, and decrease workers comp and disability claims by 32%. Investing upfront in wellness saves substantially more money in the long term.

Having a wellness program helps attract top talent: 87% of employees said they consider health and wellness offerings when choosing an employer.

Employees who have made use of wellness programs often make long term positive lifestyle changes! Not only great for the employee, it also saves $353 per year in recouped productivity (thats per person!)

  • We could write a book on this one! Sure, many of us know that wellness programs help improve employee satisfaction, decrease insurance premiums and make their team more productive. And you know we have the numbers to back it up (see above, or we can email you more!)

Really though? We’re downplaying our awesomeness here, but wellness services are such a small investment they make a huge impact. Employees want to feel valued and supported. Offering wellness that is focused on providing resources and guidance, especially content that is personalized to the industry, job task, or even individual can ensure employees feel seen and cared for.

  • Obviously we’re a bit biased here :)

We’re not a traditional ergonomic corporation. Marka Health started when a physical therapist decided that instead of waiting for people to develop pain and see her in the clinic, she would go ‘to the source’ to meet with people before they started having significant pain, and work with them in the place where their injuries develop, to save time and discomfort for all.

All of our providers are Doctors of Physical Therapy with advanced certifications in Ergonomics, Injury Prevention, Yoga, Pilates, and more. We have experience treating the injuries that we are helping you avoid, and we use that clinical expertise to recognize risk factors and signs of potential pain and injury.

No one size fits all approach here. As a small company, it’s personal for us. We get to know your organization and pride ourselves on creating effective programming and customized recommendations that will make the most impact. We see our relationship as a partnership, we are working together towards a common goal.

We are real people too - and we definitely aren’t perfect. We don’t insist on purchasing new equipment or making unsustainable lifestyle changes. We pride ourselves on taking a realistic approach to health, meeting our clients where they are and providing guidance and support that’s helpful and attainable.

  • Understandably its difficult to put an exact number on this because there are so many different factors! We’ll try to give some financial context to all the statistics:

    • Healthcare Costs: as employee health improves with wellness, you would expect to see a drop in insurance premiums, workers comp claims, and other healthcare spending. The classic Johnson & Johnson study reports a saving of up to $3.92 for every $1 spend on wellness. If you invest $20,000 in a wellness program, you could expect to see $78,400 saved in healthcare costs!

    • Sick Days - if 36 million people miss work due to pain in the US, costing $300 BILLION in lost revenue annually, your 500 person company might make up $4.1 million of the lost work!

    • Productivity - its estimated that an effective wellness program recoups $353 per person per year in productivity. For a 500 person company thats $176,500!

    • Employee Retention - it’s estimated 7.6% of the population experiences daily chronic pain, and 17% of them change jobs annually. Thats almost 1.3 million people year! Your 500 person company might have 6 people experiencing chronic pain and considering leaving their job due to their symptoms. If it costs 6 months of salary to replace an employee (thats a general estimation or recruiting, onboarding, HR resources), an employee making $60,000 could cost you $30,000 to find a replacement. If a wellness program can help you retain even one employee who quits due to pain it could save $30,000! Let alone the possible $180,000 savings if all 6 employees don’t leave!

Again its impossible to put an exact number on what you might save with a wellness program. The most commonly quoted cost savings study estimates that medical costs fall by about $3.27 for every dollar spent on wellness programs and that absenteeism costs fall by about $2.73 for every dollar spent.

Hopefully all these numbers gave some more context into the impact a wellness program can have on your company’s bottom line. Or maybe it just made you cross eyed :)
